QEH Launches Comprehensive DBS Newborn Screening Programme

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in partnership with the Shaw Centre for Paediatric Excellence, announced the launch of a Comprehensive Dried Blood Spot Newborn Screening Programme for Barbados.

The initiative represents a major step forward in newborn care, allowing healthcare providers to identify serious but treatable conditions before symptoms appear. Early detection can help ensure that treatment begins sooner, giving children a better opportunity for healthy growth and development.

The programme also strengthens Barbados’ position in preventive child health services and reflects the importance of investing in early diagnosis, paediatric care, and long-term health outcomes.
